The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced potential traffic delays due to the transportation of modular homes for wildfire survivors from Kahului to Lahaina. The operation is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 19, at 8 p.m., with subsequent hauls on Thursday and Friday nights.
The transport will involve a caravan of six trucks moving the homes from a staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) to Lahaina's Ka Laʻi Ola housing site. The route includes several key roads: Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32), Hāna Highway (Route 36), Elmer F. Carvalho Way (Route 3800), Kūihelani Highway (Route 380), and Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30). Upon reaching Lahaina, the trucks will turn onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center to reach their destination.
On February 19, during the day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the modular homes will be transported from Kahului Harbor to a temporary staging site near the small boat ramp before continuing their journey in the evening.
Motorists should anticipate possible slowdowns and stops along these routes due to the size of the modular units being transported. Escorts will accompany the convoy, and highway users are advised to follow all signs and directions from traffic controllers.
