The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has informed highway users of potential traffic delays due to the transportation of modular homes for wildfire survivors. These homes will be moved from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina.

The transportation operation is scheduled to take place at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16. The process will involve a caravan of trucks carrying the homes from a staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) to Lahaina.

The planned route for the trucks is to head south on Kahului Beach Road, turn left heading east on Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32), then turn right onto Hāna Highway (Route 36). They will proceed to turn right onto Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800), linking with Kūihelani Highway (Route 380). Upon reaching the intersection with Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30), the trucks will turn left and travel west to Lahaina, ultimately turning onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center and reaching the site located mauka of the highway.

In preparation for the transport operation, the modular homes will first be moved from Kahului Harbor to a temporary staging site near the Kahului small boat ramp on Monday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, trucks will proceed from the harbor onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue, heading west, and will then turn right onto Kahului Beach Road.

For updates or changes to the hauling schedule, individuals can consult HDOT’s social media pages on Facebook and Twitter/X.
