The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has issued an advisory for domestic air travelers departing from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Due to staffing constraints at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspection stations, passengers are encouraged to allocate extra time for pre-flight baggage inspections.
Starting April 6, operations at the airport will shift. Only one agricultural inspection station will be operational in Lobby 7 after 8 a.m., while another will be open in Lobby 8. The station in front of the American Airlines check-in counters in Lobby 7 will operate from 5 to 8 a.m. In contrast, the station near the ANA counters in Lobby 8 will remain closed until further notice.
Moreover, the inspection station in Lobby 5 will commence operations at 8:55 a.m., aligning with the opening of the Alaska Airlines check-in counters. The remaining USDA inspection stations will be available from 5 a.m. daily.
Travelers bound for the U.S. mainland, Alaska, or Guam must undergo USDA baggage inspection. This procedure is mandatory to prevent the transportation of plants, insects, and potentially hazardous plant diseases.
