The Hawai'i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced possible traffic delays as modular homes continue to be transported from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina. These homes are intended for survivors of recent wildfires.

Transport activities are scheduled to occur nightly at 9 p.m. from Wednesday, April 9 through Friday, April 11. The operation involves a convoy of trucks moving the modular homes from a staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp, along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400), to Lahaina.

The planned route begins at the Kahului small boat ramp, with trucks traveling south on Kahului Beach Road, turning east on Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32), then right onto Hāna Highway (Route 36). The convoy will proceed to Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800), continuing west, linking with Kūihelani Highway (Route 380), and finally turning left onto Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30). The route terminates in Lahaina, where trucks will make a right turn onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center to reach the housing site.

Additionally, on Monday, April 7, and Wednesday, April 9, the modular homes will be hauled from Kahului Harbor to the temporary staging site near the Kahului small boat ramp between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. During these times, trucks will travel on Kaʻahumanu Avenue from the harbor, head west, and right onto Kahului Beach Road beside the Kahului small boat ramp.

HDOT advises checking their social media pages on Facebook and Twitter/X for updates or schedule changes regarding this transport operation.
