The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the cancellation of the continuous weekend closure on the eastbound H-1 Freeway. The closure, initially planned between the Kaimakani Street Overpass and the eastbound Nimitz Highway off-ramp (Exit 15), was scheduled for Friday, March 21. The decision to cancel is due to predicted weather conditions.

HDOT plans to resume work on the Salt Lake Rehabilitation project from 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, through 4 a.m. Monday, March 31. This will involve closing three right lanes of the eastbound H-1 Freeway and the lane leading to the Nimitz Highway off-ramp for repaving activities in the shoulder and far-right lane. During this period, motorists are advised to use Moanalua Freeway and other alternate routes.

The ongoing work will continue over several weekends as part of broader project activities such as roadway reconstruction, guardrail installation, and signage updates for the H-1 Freeway Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project. HDOT estimates completion by May 2025, contingent on weather conditions.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and adhere to traffic control signs during these periods. Message boards have been installed for advance notice of closures, with special duty police officers assisting with safety measures. First responders have been informed about these changes.

Lane directions may vary weekly within this schedule.
