The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced full closures of certain on- and off-ramps on the H-1 Freeway/Airport Viaduct over the next two weekends. These closures are part of ongoing concrete deck repairs and repaving work.

On Friday, March 28, the Joint Base Pearl Harbor/Hickam off-ramp (Exit 15B) will be closed from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. Further work at this location will occur on weeknights from Monday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m., and Friday evenings from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The following weekend, starting Saturday, April 5, at 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, the Aolele Street and Rodgers Boulevard on-ramps to the H-1 Freeway from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) will be closed in both directions. This is due to safety protocols supporting the ongoing repaving.

Motorists are advised to detour via Paiea Street to Nimitz Highway to re-access the H-1 Freeway. Additionally, closures will align with the regular weekend closure of the three right lanes of the westbound H-1 Freeway/Airport Viaduct from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

During this period, the westbound Lunalilo H-1 Freeway and Kamehameha Highway on-ramps will also be closed, with detours available via Nimitz Highway. The Nimitz Highway on-ramp may also be used.

The completion date for the project has been updated to August 2025, a change from the original June timeline.

HDOT advises drivers to exercise caution, comply with all traffic control signs and barriers, and plan their routes in advance. Police officers will be present to ensure safety.

All work is contingent on weather conditions, which may affect the completion timeline.
