The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the continuation of lane closures on Fort Barrette Road between Kapolei Parkway and Kama‘aha Avenue. The closures are part of an ongoing project to improve railroad crossings and lighting along the route.
Daytime closures will persist from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with one lane closed in each direction at the crossing between Kama‘aha Avenue and Kapolei Parkway. HDOT assures that one lane in each direction will remain open. According to the current schedule, the work will continue during daytime hours and there are no plans for full closures at this moment.
The project will involve upgrading the railroad crossing, adding lighting for both the highway and shared-use paths, and installing new concrete crossing panels. Additional work will include pavement markings, striping, and signage.
Future work will also address electrical crossings and traffic signal upgrades on this section of Fort Barrette Road. HDOT plans to announce further details as they are scheduled. The department will post electronic message boards to keep travelers informed about closures.
Special duty police officers will oversee traffic control and ensure safety during the construction activities. HDOT's website will provide a full list of lane closures throughout the state's roadways.
HDOT expressed gratitude to the public for their understanding and cooperation: "HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities."
