The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the continuation of ongoing improvement projects on the H-1 Freeway. These projects include work on several sections with varying completion timelines.

The H-1 Pearl City and Waimalu Viaduct Improvements involve deck demolition and concrete work between the Hālawa Interchange and the H-1/H-2 split. The work schedule is set for Tuesday through Friday nights from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., with weekend shifts extending into early morning hours. The completion date for this project has been adjusted to May 2027.

For the H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation, paving and guardrail tasks are underway in both directions between Pearl Harbor Interchange and Salt Lake Boulevard underpass. Eastbound lanes remain closed from Friday evening to early Monday morning, while westbound closures follow a similar nightly pattern. The revised completion date is now May 2025.

Work on the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct continues nightly except Monday nights, focusing on concrete deck improvements near Valkenburg Street to Middle Street merge. Additional repair needs have shifted the project's estimated finish to August 2025.

The Eastbound H-1 Freeway Improvement Project spans from Ola Lane Overpass to Likelike Highway Off-Ramp, involving widening efforts and new retaining wall construction. This project necessitates lane closures during weeknights and daytime utility relocation work on Richard Lane and Gulick Avenue. The widening effort should conclude by July 2025, while full freeway closures for bridge installations are expected by September 2025, aiming for a final project completion by January 2027.

Motorists are urged by HDOT to exercise caution, heed traffic signs, and plan their routes accordingly as special duty police officers will assist with safety measures throughout these projects.
