The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced an extension of the nightly full closure of the westbound Moanalua Freeway, stretching from the Middle Street overpass to the Fort Shafter/Kaua Street on-ramp. This extension is due to eight days lost to inclement weather, with completion now anticipated by Friday, March 28.
Originally set for completion by Thursday, March 13, this maintenance work involves pavement preservation and repaving activities. The schedule remains subject to weather conditions. Work will continue nightly from Sunday through Friday, starting at 11 p.m. and concluding at 5 a.m. the following day.
During these closures, westbound drivers will be redirected via the Middle Street off-ramp (Exit 19A), allowing them to re-enter the H-201 Moanalua Freeway through the Fort Shafter/Kaua Street on-ramp.
To ensure traffic control and safety during this period, special duty police officers will be present on-site. Additionally, electronic message boards have been deployed to inform motorists about the planned closure.
"HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities," stated a representative from HDOT.
