The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a complete closure of Kalaniana‘ole Highway (Route 72) between Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street. This closure is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. on Monday, February 24, until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25.

The reason for the closure is the removal of approximately 100 cubic yards of unstable material from the slope above the highway. Electronic signs have been placed to inform highway users about this planned closure. Additionally, travelers should note that both the Lānaʻi Lookout and the Hālona Lookout will be closed during this nighttime work.

For those traveling in the area during these hours, HDOT advises using a detour route via Kealahou Street, Hawai‘i Kai Drive, and Lunalilo Home Road. If the work concludes earlier than expected, HDOT will communicate updates through its social media channels.
