The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is set to install a speed table at the intersection of Māmalahoa Highway and Kaʻiminani Drive. This measure aims to enhance safety on local roadways.

The installation will occur at mile post 33.2, where the current crosswalk is located, on Friday, February 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. The speed table has been designed to accommodate the posted speed limit of 35 mph. During construction, lane closures will be in effect in both directions.

HDOT is implementing traffic-calming devices such as raised crosswalks, speed tables, and speed humps to promote pedestrian safety by reminding drivers to reduce their speed in residential and school areas. Since 2019, HDOT has installed 258 speed humps and raised crosswalks statewide. In 2024 alone, they exceeded their goal by installing 63 such devices across the state. For 2025, the target remains at 40 installations statewide, with 18 currently designed or in design.

Electronic signs will inform drivers about the work area. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through the zone. For more information on weekly lane closures on Hawaiʻi Island, visit HDOT's website.
