PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, trucking plays a critical role in the United States' supply chain and economy, and the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unprecedented changes in the trucking industry as the industry continues to navigate the evolving transportation landscape; and
WHEREAS, professional truck drivers perform one of the most demanding and essential jobs in our country, safely and reliably delivering life's essentials to people in every community, school, hospital, and business; and
WHEREAS, professional truck drivers keep the shelves of our local stores stocked, deliver medicine and medical supplies to hospitals and clinics and deliver goods at every stage of production from raw materials to the store shelf; and
WHEREAS, the trucking industry in Hawai'i must navigate many unique logistical challenges absent the waterways and trains that other states have; and
WHEREAS, Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an important time for people to thank professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one or our economy's most demanding and important jobs;
THEREFORE I, DAVID Y. IGE, Governor of the State ofHawai'i, do hereby proclaim September 11-17, 2022 as "TRUCK DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK" in Hawai'i and ask the people of the Aloha State to join me in recognizing and honoring our professional truck drivers who deliver goods and resources to our communities safely and securely.
