Water service was restored in Central Maui, including the Kehalani and Wailuku areas, on April 8 following an early morning outage that disrupted supply to homes, businesses, and several key facilities.

The restoration is important as it affected not only residential neighborhoods but also critical sites such as Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, the Maui Police Department, Baldwin High School, and the Maui War Memorial Sports Complex. The disruption began around 1 a.m., impacting a broad area from Mahalani Street to Naniloa Drive and surrounding communities.

Officials said repair work was completed earlier than expected. The original estimate for restoring water service was noon; however, water returned ahead of schedule. With service back online, customers are being asked to flush their water lines by running outside faucets for about ten minutes to clear any sediment that may have settled during the outage. Residents with separate storage tanks are also advised to drain and flush those tanks.

After flushing outdoor lines, residents should run an indoor faucet—such as in the kitchen or bathroom—for another ten minutes to ensure clean water throughout their plumbing systems.

The swift completion of repairs helped minimize inconvenience for both residents and essential services across Central Maui. Customers are reminded that proper flushing helps maintain safe drinking water following outages.
