The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming repair work on the Wailua Bridges along Kūhiō Highway (Route 56), between Kuamoʻo Road and Wailua Marina Road. The repairs will take place both during the day and at night through September 15.

Work is scheduled for both the Wailua River Bridge, which serves southbound traffic, and the Mayor Bryan Baptiste Memorial Bridge, also known as the Wailua Plantation Bridge, which handles northbound vehicles. According to HDOT, “These closures are necessary for the Wailua Bridge Repair Project. The contractor will be performing bridge jacking to install components under the Wailua River Bridge and replacing deck panels on the Mayor Bryan Baptiste Memorial Bridge. Remaining work includes drilled shafts, pier caps, spall repairs and scour protection to reinforce bridge. The Wailua Bridge Repair Project is expected to be completed in March 2026.”

To accommodate this work, contraflows will be implemented for daytime activities under the mauka bridge and nighttime operations on the makai bridge. Variable message boards have been placed along Kūhiō Highway to inform motorists about upcoming changes.
