The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming road closures on Puʻunēnē Avenue in Kahului due to sewer line work for the Hale Pilina affordable housing project. The work will take place in front of 150 South Puʻunēnē Avenue, across from McDonald’s.

Starting Sunday, July 13, all lanes of South Puʻunēnē Avenue will be closed nightly between West Kamehameha Avenue and Hololeʻa Street. The night closures are scheduled from Sundays through Thursdays, 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with the last closure ending at 5:30 a.m. on Fridays. Detours will be available via Hoʻohana Street and East Kamehameha Avenue.

Additionally, beginning Monday, July 14, one lane in each direction will be closed weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., affecting the area fronting McDonald’s as work proceeds in the turn pocket and inside lanes of South Puʻunēnē Avenue. During this period, no left turns will be allowed from open lanes or adjacent properties along the affected area.

The daytime and nighttime closures are expected to continue through August with adjustments based on work progress.

For updates or changes to the construction schedule, HDOT encourages checking their social media pages on Facebook and Twitter/X @DOTHawaii. Weekly lane closure information is also available on their website.

Motorists are advised to plan accordingly, expect delays, follow traffic control devices, and drive carefully around workers.
