The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new program at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu aimed at making airport security screening easier for families traveling during the summer and beyond. The initiative, called “Families on the Fly,” includes dedicated family lanes at security checkpoints to help parents and children move through the process with less stress while upholding security standards.

“When families come to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and enter one of our TSA security checkpoints, they will have a dedicated lane specific to them,” said TSA’s Federal Security Director for Pacific Airports, Nanea Vasta. “With the Hawaiian Islands being a top tourist destination for vacationing families, I’m thrilled we now have the added ability to expedite their screening process and make the airport experience more enjoyable.”

Other airports participating in the campaign include Orlando International, Charlotte-Douglas International, John Wayne Orange County Airport, Jacksonville International, Will Rogers International Airport, Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport, and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. TSA plans to expand these special family lanes to more airports nationwide. As part of the program, there are also discounted TSA PreCheck fees for families and dedicated PreCheck lanes for military service members and their families.

“We appreciate that TSA has chosen the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport to be one of nation’s first airports to have a dedicated family lane as part of the ‘Families on the Fly’ initiative,” said Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen. “Having the new family lane at HNL is especially significant, given the importance of ‘ohana (family) in the Islands and Hawai‘i’s popularity as a family friendly destination.”

This campaign follows other recent TSA efforts to improve traveler experience across its 435 U.S. airports. Earlier this month, TSA started its “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” campaign to recognize military personnel and their families by providing expedited access through PreCheck lanes at select airports near major military bases.

TSA reminds travelers from HNL that military personnel and civilian Department of Defense staff can receive free TSA PreCheck by entering their DOD ID number as their Known Traveler Number when booking travel arrangements online at www.tsa.gov/military. Children aged 12 and under can join eligible adults in PreCheck lanes without restriction; minors aged 13-17 must be on the same reservation as an eligible parent or guardian.

The agency also continues its TSA Cares program for passengers with disabilities or medical conditions who require extra assistance during screening.
