The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that three lanes on the westbound H-1 Freeway near the Makakilo Drive off-ramp will be closed on Monday, Nov. 24, for survey and layout work. The closure will take place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.

According to HDOT, crews will close the three left lanes in the area, and at midnight, work will shift to the right lanes of the roadway, including the far-left lane of the Makakilo off-ramp. The closures are necessary for surveying and layout efforts in preparation for pavement rehabilitation along this section of the freeway. Ramps are expected to remain open during this period, with only one side of the freeway being worked on at a time.

On Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, similar work is scheduled to move to the vicinity of the Kunia/Ewa Beach off-ramps. The three left lanes of westbound H-1 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., with work switching to the right-hand side at midnight. Ramps in this area will also stay open while one side is under construction.

HDOT advises drivers: “Please plan accordingly, allow for extra travel time to get to your destinations and proceed with caution through any work areas.”

Special duty police officers will be present for traffic control and safety procedures during these closures. Electronic message boards will inform motorists about closure details.

“Please note, all work is weather permitting and subject to change per these conditions,” HDOT stated.
