The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has issued a notice to highway users to exercise caution and anticipate delays on Saturday, March 15, due to the Valley to the Sea Half Marathon. The event includes a half marathon, a 10k race, and a 5k race traversing through the Wailuku and Māʻalaea areas.

The half marathon is scheduled to commence at 6:30 a.m., starting from ʻĪao Valley State Monument. Participants will proceed along ʻĪao Valley Road to Main Street (Route 32), turning right onto South High Street (Route 30), which connects to Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30). At the intersection with North Kīhei Road (Route 310) in Māʻalaea, runners will continue along North Kīhei Road facing traffic. They will cross from the mauka side to the makai side at Kealia Boardwalk with police assistance for traffic control.

Runners will then return along North Kīhei Road towards Honoapiʻilani Highway, heading west before taking Māʻalaea Road to reach the Maui Ocean Center.

The 10k race starts at 6 a.m., followed by the 5k race at 6:10 a.m.; both begin and conclude at the Maui Ocean Center. The 10k route takes runners north on Māʻalaea Road and along Honoapiʻilani Highway before heading east on North Kīhei Road. Runners will turn around at Kealia Pond Boardwalk and head back via Honoapiʻilani Highway and Māʻalaea Road without crossing North Kīhei Road.

For the 5k route, participants start from Maui Ocean Center via Māʻalaea Road, heading east on Honoapiʻilani Highway, turning around at North Kīhei Road intersection, and returning to Maui Ocean Center.

Police officers will be stationed at major intersections throughout the races. Cones for the event will be set up around 5:30 a.m. on March 15. The half marathon is expected to conclude by noon.
