Total OASDI widow and parent beneficiaries in Hawaii decreases in 2020

There were 14,502 total OASDI widow and parent beneficiaries in Hawaii in 2020, a 0.5 percent decrease from 2019, according to the official Social Security Administration website.

There were 14,570 total beneficiaries in 2019.

The Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program is a Social Security Administration program funded primarily through payroll taxes. It was signed into law in 1935 by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The OASDI program aims to supplement a worker’s lost wages due to retirement, disability or death of a spouse.
