The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a permanent change to the speed limit at the intersection of Likelike Highway (Route 63) and School Street in Kalihi. The posted speed will increase from 25 mph to 35 mph, effective once new signage is installed on Wednesday, August 13.

According to HDOT, this adjustment follows an analysis of traffic data and feedback from the community. Officials say the higher speed limit is intended to support better traffic flow through this section of highway while maintaining safety.

“After collecting traffic data and input from the community, HDOT has revised the previous speed limit. This change will improve traffic flow through the area at an appropriate speed for the flow of this section of highway,” stated HDOT.

HDOT reminds drivers that all scheduled work depends on weather conditions, which could affect when the project is completed. For ongoing updates about lane closures and other changes, residents can sign up for weekly notifications at https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/hidot/subscriber/new.
