The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that alternating single lane closures will take place next week on Kula Highway (Route 37) and Kekaulike Avenue (Route 377). The closures are scheduled as a contractor installs five speed tables on Kula Highway and four speed tables on Kekaulike Avenue.

According to HDOT, motorists have been observed exceeding the posted speed limits in these areas by more than 20 mph. The posted speed limits range from 20 mph to 35 mph on Kula Highway, while the limit is 30 mph on Kekaulike Avenue.

Work on the Kula Highway speed tables is set for Monday, Feb. 2 through Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Kekaulike Avenue, work will occur from Tuesday, Feb. 3 through Thursday, Feb. 5 during the same hours.

During construction, traffic will be alternated in the open lane to maintain flow.

“All work is weather permitting,” HDOT stated in its announcement. “For construction schedule updates or changes, see HDOT’s social media pages https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiDepartmentOfTransportation and on Twitter/X @DOTHawaii.”
