The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on May 8 that the right northbound lane of Piʻilani Highway near East Waipuʻilani Road will be closed nightly for construction work starting Tuesday, May 12. The closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with the final closure ending on Friday, May 15, though work may finish earlier.

This temporary closure is necessary as a contractor works on a new intersection for the Maui Research & Technology Park residential subdivision. During this period, one lane will remain open to allow through traffic. In addition to the nightly closures, the shoulder in this area will be closed around the clock until the project is completed.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation asks drivers to obey all posted traffic controls and drive carefully around workers during these hours. For updates or changes regarding the construction schedule, residents are encouraged to check HDOT’s social media pages on Facebook and Twitter/X @DOTHawaii.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation manages a statewide highway system and other transportation facilities across all six major Hawaiian islands according to the official website. The department also operates airports and harbors while working closely with federal agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Coast Guard.

According to its official website, HDOT aims to deliver safe and efficient transportation systems that support both mobility and economic growth throughout Hawaii.
