The County of Maui Department of Public Works announced on April 28 that a section of Piʻilani Highway in Kaupō will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly, Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8, for roadwork.

The closure affects the East Maui area just past Mile Marker 28 on Piʻilani Highway. The department said motorists should avoid the area during these nighttime work hours.

According to the announcement, the closure is necessary for geotechnical work related to the DPW Waiopai Embankment Repairs project.

The temporary closure aims to ensure safety while essential repairs are made.
