The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has issued an advisory for highway users in relation to The Maui Marathon taking place on Sunday, April 27. Runners will occupy a section of Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30) during the event.

The marathon is scheduled to start at 5 a.m., with both the start and finish lines situated at the Outrigger Kāʻanapali Beach Resort on Kāʻanapali Parkway. A southbound lane on Honoapiʻilani Highway, spanning from Kāʻanapali Parkway to ʻAholo Road, will be closed temporarily. However, another lane in the same direction will remain accessible to traffic.

Additionally, the makai right shoulder on Honoapiʻilani Highway from ʻAholo Road to Papalāua Wayside Park is designated for runner use throughout the marathon, while all traffic lanes will stay open. Participants will make a turnaround at Papalāua Wayside Park, located at Mile Post 10.5, and return to Kāʻanapali along the shoulder of the highway.

Police presence will be maintained at key intersections to manage traffic and ensure safety. Besides the full marathon, a half marathon, 10k, and 5k events will occur with staggered start times. These races will share similar routes but have different turnaround points. Participants of all races will commence and conclude at the Outrigger Kāʻanapali Beach Resort.

The road closures tied to the event are expected to cease by 9 a.m., or potentially earlier.

Motorists are urged to comply with traffic controls and drive cautiously in proximity to the runners.
