The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced that permanent striping work will begin on Monday, October 27, along Kamehameha Highway as part of the Joseph P. Leong Highway and Kamehameha Highway Rehabilitation project. The work zone stretches from Waimea Bay Beach Park to ʻŌpaeʻula Stream Bridge.

According to HDOT, crews will close one lane at a time and shift traffic flow on Kamehameha Highway starting from Weed Circle toward Haleiwa to install permanent road markings. Work is scheduled from Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

HDOT also stated that daytime repaving activities in front of Waimea Bay were postponed after community feedback and in-field observations made in July 2025. These activities are expected to resume at night in January 2026. In the meantime, crews have continued with related tasks such as lowering manholes and installing markings on newly paved sections outside Waimea.

All work is subject to weather conditions and schedules may change accordingly. HDOT expressed appreciation for public cooperation during these maintenance efforts. “HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities and roadways.”
