The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on April 6 that daily construction will take place to repave Taxiway G between Gate B-5 and Gate A-16 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. The paving project will begin with closures from 10:00 p.m. Monday, April 6 until 5:00 a.m. the following day, and continue with daily closures from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., concluding by 4:30 a.m. Thursday, April 16.

This work will require all wide-body aircraft normally using Terminal 1 and the Mauka Terminal to be relocated to Terminal 2 during closure hours. Passengers flying on Hawaiian or Alaska Airlines Airbus A330 or Boeing 787 aircraft may experience gate changes and are advised to allow extra time for moving between terminals. Shuttle service within the airport is available, with details provided on the airport’s transportation page.

According to the official website, the Hawaii Department of Transportation manages multiple airports serving both domestic and international carriers, as well as commercial harbors and a statewide highway system across all six major Hawaiian islands.

The department functions as part of the executive branch of state government according to its official website. It operates eleven commercial service airports, four general aviation airports, nine commercial harbors, and maintains approximately 2,450 lane miles of highways throughout Hawaii’s main islands according to its official website.

The department states that it aims “to deliver a safe, efficient, accessible and sustainable transportation system that supports mobility for people and goods while fostering economic growth and quality of life” according to its official website. Collaboration occurs with federal agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Highway Administration as well as county planning departments according to its official website.

HDOT said it appreciates “the patience of the traveling public as we work to maintain and improve our transportation infrastructure.”
