One lane in each direction on North Kīhei Road will be closed overnight as the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) carries out safety improvements. The closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 to 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, near the Keālia Coastal Boardwalk.

During this period, traffic will be alternated through the open lane while crews install rumble strips and tuff curbs. According to HDOT, these additions are intended to help drivers maintain safe speeds and stay within their lanes.

HDOT noted that some motorists have been recorded driving up to 54 mph in an area where the speed limit is set at 35 mph. There have also been instances of vehicles making prohibited left turns into and out of the Keālia Coastal Boardwalk parking lot despite posted signage.

“Please obey all traffic control devices and signs and please drive carefully around the workers,” HDOT stated.
