One lane of Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30) in Māʻalaea will be closed overnight for striping and traffic sign installation, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT). The closure affects the Wailuku-bound lane near the Māʻalaea Small Boat Harbor entry and exit, between mile markers 6.5 and 7.

The lane will be closed from 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, until 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7. During this period, traffic will alternate through the open lane.

Crews are scheduled to restripe the road to remove the break in the median line that currently allows left turns. After the work is completed, access to and from Honoapiʻilani Highway at this location will be limited to right turns only as a measure intended to improve traffic flow.

Motorists traveling from Kahului who wish to reach Māʻalaea Small Boat Harbor can use Māʻalaea Road or Kapoli Street. The same routes are available for those exiting the harbor.

HDOT asks drivers to obey all traffic controls and exercise caution around workers during construction.

All work is dependent on weather conditions. For updates or changes to the construction schedule, HDOT directs road users to its social media pages on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiDepartmentOfTransportation and Twitter/X @DOTHawaii.
