The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) will experience intermittent nighttime closures next week. The affected area is between mileposts 10.45 and 10.55 on the Lahaina side of the Olowalu Tunnel, also known as the “pali tunnel.”

Crews are scheduled to remove a boulder caught in protective netting and conduct rock scaling and other rock removal work from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20 until 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21. During this period, both directions of the road will be closed intermittently for up to ten minutes at a time.

Motorists are advised to follow all traffic controls and exercise caution near workers.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation oversees transportation infrastructure across air, land, and water systems throughout the six major Hawaiian islands. The agency manages airports, harbors, and highways while working with federal and county partners to maintain safe mobility for residents and visitors. More information about HDOT’s role can be found on its official website.
