The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that Runway 4R at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., beginning Sunday, December 7 through Saturday, December 20. The closure is necessary for completing final tasks on the HNL Runway and Taxiway Shoulder Rehabilitation project as it approaches its conclusion.

To reduce disruptions to regular flight schedules, the work will take place during nighttime hours. During this period, late-arriving flights will be directed to use either Runway 8L or the Reef Runway. This may cause increased aircraft noise over the ‘Ewa Plain area. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.

The rehabilitation project began in February 2024 and was initially expected to finish by the end of October 2025. However, some tasks were delayed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

“The closures are needed to perform punch-list items for the HNL Runway and Taxiway Shoulder Rehabilitation project as it nears completion,” HDOT stated.

HDOT expressed gratitude toward local residents for their patience while improvements are made for continued safe airport operations.
