The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that the intersection of Nawiliwili Road and Kukui Grove Street in Līhuʻe will be fully closed to northbound traffic each night from Sunday, February 8 through Friday, February 13. The closure will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
According to HDOT, this closure is required so crews can conduct an underground survey to identify the locations of utilities before future sewer and water installations at the intersection. During these hours, traffic will be detoured to Haleko Road. Flaggers will be present on site and electronic signs will provide updates for drivers.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation manages a wide range of transportation facilities including airports serving domestic and international carriers, commercial harbors, and a statewide highway system across all six major Hawaiian islands. The department operates as part of the executive branch of the State of Hawaii government and oversees 11 commercial service airports, four general aviation airports, nine commercial harbors, and about 2,450 lane miles of highways. HDOT’s mission is to provide a safe and efficient transportation network that supports both mobility needs and economic growth throughout the state while working closely with federal agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration and county departments.
