Nighttime construction work will resume on Farrington Highway between Nānākuli and Ko Olina starting Monday, January 5, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT). The project is focused on safety improvements along this section of highway.

The planned work will require nightly lane closures in both directions from Sunday through Thursday. Closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 6:15 a.m., stretching from Pōhakunui Avenue to Aliʻinui Drive. The eastbound lane will close at 7 p.m., followed by the westbound lane at 8:30 p.m. Each closure may affect either the left or right lane.

To minimize impact on morning commuters, HDOT stated that “the eastbound lane on Farrington Highway will reopen at 4:15 a.m. daily. The westbound lane will reopen at 6:15 a.m.”

Remaining tasks for the safety improvement project include installing shoulder rumble strips, reconstructing and widening pavement in certain areas, and relocating drainage and signage to support new safety measures.

HDOT now estimates the project’s completion in May 2026, which is later than the previous projection of March 2026. The department noted that all schedules are subject to weather conditions.

“HDOT thanks the public for its cooperation as we work to maintain safe facilities,” the agency said.
