The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced potential traffic delays as modular homes are transported for wildfire survivors next week. These homes will be moved from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina.
The transportation will occur nightly at 9 p.m. from Wednesday, April 2 through Friday, April 4. Trucks will convoy from the staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road to Lahaina.
The route includes traveling south on Kahului Beach Road, turning east on Kaʻahumanu Avenue, then onto Hāna Highway, continuing onto Elmer F. Carvalho Way, linking with Kūihelani Highway, and finally heading west on Honoapiʻilani Highway to Lahaina. In Lahaina, the trucks will proceed on Honoapiʻilani Highway and turn onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center to reach the housing site.
Prior to this, on Monday, March 31 and Wednesday, April 2, modular homes will be carried from Kahului Harbor to the staging site from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trucks will exit onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue and turn onto Kahului Beach Road near the small boat ramp.
