The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that modular homes will be transported this week to two locations in Maui. The delivery is expected to cause potential traffic delays along the transport routes.

On Tuesday, August 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., two trucks will move modular homes from the staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp. The route includes traveling south on Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400), turning left onto Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32), and then right onto Hāna Highway (Route 36). The homes will be delivered to a state site at the corner of Hāna Highway and Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800).

A second delivery is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., with trucks again starting from the Kahului small boat ramp. The route will proceed south on Kahului Beach Road, east on Kaʻahumanu Avenue, right onto Hāna Highway, then right onto Elmer F. Cravalho Way heading west to Kūihelani Highway (Route 380). At the intersection with Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30), trucks will turn left toward Lahaina, continue on Honoapiʻilani Highway, and make a right turn onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center before reaching the housing site mauka of the highway.

HDOT advises motorists that traffic slowdowns and stops are likely in both directions due to the size of the modular units being hauled. Escorts will accompany the trucks during transport for safety. Drivers are asked to follow all posted signs and instructions from traffic controllers.

Updates or changes to the hauling schedule can be found on HDOT’s social media pages at Facebook https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiDepartmentOfTransportation and Twitter/X @DOTHawaii.
