The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that modular homes will be transported to Lahaina to provide housing for teachers. The transport is scheduled to take place on Mondays, starting November 3 and continuing through January 19, 2026.

The process will begin in Kahului between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., where trucks will move the homes from Kahului Harbor to a staging site in Waikapū, located off Kūihelani Highway (Route 380). The designated route includes Hobron Avenue (Route 32A), Hāna Highway (Route 36), Elmer F. Cravalho Way, Kūihelani Highway, and finally Waikō Road. At this point, the homes will be staged until they are ready for evening delivery.

Nighttime transportation is also scheduled for Mondays, from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., following the same timeline as the daytime haul. During this period, trucks will carry the modular homes from the Waikō Road site west toward Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30) and into Lahaina via the Lahaina Bypass (Route 3000). The final destination is a location below Lahainaluna High School.

Highway users should expect potential traffic delays along these routes due to the size of the units being transported. Escorts will accompany the trucks during transport operations, and motorists are advised to follow all posted signs and directions from traffic controllers.
