The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the continued transportation of modular homes for wildfire survivors from Kahului to a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) housing site in Lahaina. The transportation is set to occur this week.

On Saturday, May 10, the modular homes will be moved from Kahului Harbor to a temporary staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp. This operation will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The route for the trucks will begin at Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32), proceeding west before turning right onto Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400).

Starting Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 16, nightly hauling of these modular homes from the staging site to Lahaina will occur. Each night’s transport is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 11:59 p.m., with trucks moving in a caravan.

The planned route involves traveling south on Kahului Beach Road, then east on Kaʻahumanu Avenue before turning right onto Hāna Highway (Route 36). The trucks will proceed onto Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800), linking with Kūihelani Highway (Route 380). At Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30), they will turn left and head west towards Lahaina. In Lahaina, the convoy will continue on Honoapiʻilani Highway and turn right onto Leialiʻi Parkway near the Lahaina Civic Center to reach the site located mauka of the highway.
