The County of Maui Department of Water Supply asked all customers in South Maui to conserve water on April 6 as permanent repairs continue on a mainline break. The department said that the ongoing work is causing temporary service interruptions and reduced water pressure in the area.

The request for conservation applies to residents, visitors, hotels, and condominium properties through 6 p.m. Water storage tanks are being depleted quickly due to the situation.

According to the department, if conservation does not increase, more areas could experience low pressure or outages as tank levels drop. Customers are being asked to refrain from nonessential water use so that enough supply remains available for essential needs while repairs are underway.

There is no additional background information about previous incidents or expected timelines beyond today’s advisory. The department has not provided further details about the cause of the mainline break or when full service will be restored.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to monitor official updates from Maui County regarding any changes or new instructions related to water use.
