The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has issued an update regarding the closure of the Kāne‘ohe-bound lanes of Likelike Highway (Route 63) between North School Street and the Wilson Tunnel. The closure began at approximately 2:34 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, following the presence of downed utility poles and lines that blocked the roadway.

Utility companies are currently working to remove and reset the affected poles and restore service in the area. HDOT is coordinating with these utilities to partially reopen traffic for the afternoon commute. According to HDOT, “HDOT is coordinating with the utilities to reopen one Kāne‘ohe-bound lane by 1 p.m. and another lane by 3 p.m. for the afternoon rush. One lane will close again at 7 p.m. to perform the work needed to restore service. Another notice will be sent once a time frame for the remaining repairs is provided.”

Motorists are advised that only limited access will be available during these hours, with further closures expected later in the evening as repair work continues.

For ongoing updates, HDOT encourages road users to check its social media channels on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiDepartmentOfTransportation and on Twitter/X @DOTHawaii.
