The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced full closures of the Honolulu-bound Likelike Highway starting Monday, June 30. The closure will affect the section from the H-3 Freeway split through the Wilson Tunnel.

The highway will be closed on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the installation of hanger rods in the ceiling of Wilson Tunnel. These stainless steel rods are crucial for supporting the tunnel ceiling and their replacement aims to prevent emergency closures in the future.

To ensure safety during this project, additional daily lane closures will occur before reaching the H-3 Freeway split. Motorists can use Pali Highway and H-3 Freeway as alternative routes across Ko‘olau.

This construction work is expected to be completed by Friday, August 8, weather permitting. HDOT advises drivers to exercise caution, pay attention to traffic control signs and barriers, and plan their commutes accordingly. Special duty police officers will be present to assist with safety measures.
