The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced the completion of nighttime closures on Kūhiō Highway at Hanalei Hill. The closures, which took place from July 8 to September 12, 2025, allowed for reconstruction of pavement and installation of permanent striping between Hanalei Plantation Road and ʻŌhiki Road.

According to HDOT, remaining work will be carried out during daytime hours starting Monday, September 22, 2025. These activities include drainage improvements, guardrail installations, and planting along the affected stretch. The department projects that full slope stabilization work at Hanalei Hill—including work on the Waikoko slope—will be finished by November 2025.

Electronic message boards will continue to provide updates about ongoing and upcoming construction activity. HDOT encourages residents and travelers seeking more information about weekly lane closures on Kauaʻi to visit its website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/kauai/.
