LĪHUʻE, Hawaiʻi – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of full nighttime closures for Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) between Hanalei Plantation Road and ʻŌhiki Road. These closures will begin on Monday, July 28, and continue through Monday, September 15, 2025.

The highway will be closed on weeknights from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., with the final closure each week ending on Friday mornings. Following these full closures, one lane will open with alternating traffic control until 5 a.m. Weekend closures from Friday to Sunday will involve a single lane closure from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

These measures are necessary for pavement reconstruction on Hanalei Hill. Once this is completed, additional work including drainage, guardrails, planting, and striping will follow. The slope stabilization project at Hanalei Hill is expected to conclude by November 2025.

Emergency vehicles will have access during the closures as first responders have been informed of the situation. Flaggers will be present at both ends of the construction zone.

Electronic message boards are set up to inform drivers about the upcoming work. For more details about weekly lane closures in Kauaʻi, visit HDOT’s website.
