Kalā Road near Kahului Airport will be closed overnight for paving work, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT). The closure is scheduled from 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, until 5 a.m. on Sunday, August 3. The work will take place under the bridge near the airport cargo entry and exit.
During this period, Kalā Road will not be open to through traffic at the intersection of Aalele Street. In addition, left turns from Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way off-ramp onto Kalā Road will not be allowed. Motorists may cross Kalā Road from the off-ramp to access airport cargo, and right turns from the off-ramp onto Kalā Road will still be permitted. Drivers traveling east may continue to the Kalā Road intersection with Haleakalā Highway.
No westbound travel will be allowed on Kalā Road at its intersection with Haleakalā Highway. However, access to the heliport and private aircraft via Haleakalā Highway will remain available.
The department urges drivers to follow all posted signs and traffic controls while traveling in the area.
