The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has opened the Kῑlauea Roundabout at the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and Kolo Road. The roundabout became operational on November 14, with construction having started on May 5 under a contract valued at $14.3 million.

Although the roundabout is now in use, HDOT stated that full completion is expected by the end of the year. Work still to be finished includes landscaping, permanent striping, and installation of signs. Additional work to install traffic counting systems is scheduled for January 2026.

HDOT expressed appreciation to local residents for their patience during construction and related traffic changes.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed when approaching the roundabout, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, ensure it is safe before entering, travel counterclockwise within the roundabout, and signal before exiting.
