The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced that Kūhiō Highway will undergo intermittent full closures between the Hanalei Fire Station and ʻŌhiki Road. These closures will occur on Tuesday, April 1, and Wednesday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the bottom of each hour.
These closures are part of the Hanalei Hill emergency slope stabilization project. The intention is to enhance safety for vehicles traveling beneath the work area. During these periods, helicopter crews will install wire mesh to secure loose soils on the hillside.
In the event of emergencies, first responders will be granted priority passage through the work area.
HDOT provides updates on scheduled lane closures by island on its website every Friday for the upcoming week. For information relating to state routes on Kaua‘i, visit their website.
