The County of Maui Office of Recovery, together with the Hawaiian Music Perpetuation Society, announced on April 16 that Hot Kūpuna Nights will return to the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall on Wednesday, April 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the community. It aims to bring kūpuna and their families together for an evening of live music and connection with wildfire recovery resources. Organizers said participants are encouraged to RSVP in advance through the RSVP link available at MauiRecovers.org/events.
Live mele will be performed by Kuʻuipo Kumukahi & Friends and hosted by Alakaʻi Paleka. Attendees are invited to bring their ʻukulele and join a kanikapila session. The event is designed as a space for Lahaina kūpuna to gather, talk story, and access support services in a setting centered around music.
Resource tables staffed by representatives from the County Office of Recovery’s Hoʻokumu Hou program, Ho’ōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long-Term Recovery Group, Pono Legal, and other community partners will offer information and assistance during the gathering.
Participants are asked to use the back road entrance on the Nāpili side of Honoapiʻilani Highway near the Lahaina Fire Station due to ongoing repairs on Akoakoa Place entry road following storm damage. Event staff will be present to guide vehicles into parking areas and assist with drop-offs at the social hall.
