The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) is set to conduct maintenance and repairs on the main runway at Hilo International Airport. The work will involve pavement repairs and crack sealing.

Taxiway A and Runway 8-26 will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., starting Monday, June 23, 2025, through Wednesday, June 25, 2025. During these hours, aircraft operations will use the alternate runway, 3-21. The schedule is subject to weather conditions.

This maintenance is part of HDOT’s ongoing efforts to maintain runways and improve takeoff and taxiway operations at the airport. “HDOT has scheduled this maintenance work at night to minimize impacts to air travelers and airline operations,” said an HDOT representative. The department aims to reduce project duration as much as possible.

“HDOT apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciate the public’s understanding as the work must be done to ensure safety for all aircraft operations,” stated the department.
