The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of public meetings to discuss the Līhuʻe Airport Optimization Plan (LAOP). The meetings aim to inform the community about the plan and gather public input.
Līhuʻe Airport is the only commercial service airport on Kauaʻi, serving residents, visitors, cargo, and emergency services. HDOT developed the LAOP in response to earlier feedback and studies, seeking to address current challenges at the airport.
According to HDOT, “The purpose of the LAOP is to optimize existing airport facilities to improve safety, enhance operational efficiency and environmental sustainability, as well as to improve passenger experience, while remaining responsive to community values and concerns.”
Community members are invited to attend any of four scheduled meetings between March 3 and March 5, 2026. Each meeting will present the same information. Meeting details and materials will be available online at www.lihoptimizationplan.com. An online comment tool will also be provided for those unable to attend in person.
Requests for project information or accommodations can be directed to Ms. Traci Lum, HDOT Airports Project Manager.
