The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) has installed 20 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. The OpConnect Level 2 chargers are located on the ground floor of the International Parking Structure and are available to the public around the clock. Users can access these stations on a first-come, first-served basis and pay for usage through a QR code that links to the OpConnect mobile app.

The EV chargers use standard J1772 connectors and charge $0.44 per kilowatt-hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with rates increasing to $0.57 per kilowatt-hour between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. Vehicles must be actively charging while parked in one of the designated stalls, and standard airport parking fees still apply.

According to HDOT, this installation is part of its broader initiative to improve EV infrastructure as Hawai‘i works toward more sustainable transportation options statewide. The project cost totaled $539,000 for both equipment and installation.

“The new charging stations offer EV drivers a convenient and reliable charging option while at the airport,” said Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen. “Hawai‘i consistently ranks among the top states for electric vehicle adoption, so it’s important that we continue to invest in charging infrastructure that supports the electrification of our transportation system.”
