The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced changes to the weekend lane closures for the H-1 Salt Lake Rehabilitation Project. The ongoing work will continue to require closure of three right eastbound lanes on the H-1 Freeway between the Kaimakani Street overpass and the Pearl Harbor/Nimitz off-ramp (Exit 15) from 6:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

On the weekends of December 12 and December 19, crews will expand these closures to include a fourth lane at various times during the weekend as they work on the third lane from the right. This adjustment will leave only one lane open through the construction area during certain hours.

HDOT advises drivers to consider alternate routes, especially when only one lane is available. “HDOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, be aware of all traffic control signs and barriers, and plan commutes ahead of time. Special duty police officers will be on-site assisting with safety procedures,” according to HDOT.

The remaining tasks for this project include reconstruction and repaving in the eastbound direction, installing guardrails and signs, as well as adding rumble strips and final striping in both directions. Scheduling for final striping depends on crew availability and will be announced later.

All scheduled work is dependent on weather conditions and may change accordingly.
