The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 14 that the traffic signal at Kamehameha Avenue and Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) in Kahului will be either flashing or turned off from midnight to 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. The planned outage is due to post-storm repair work, which includes servicing a controller cabinet, fixing a computer board, and reprogramming the intersection’s traffic signals.
During these hours, the intersection will operate as a four-way stop with additional stop signs placed to remind drivers. The department advises motorists arriving at the same time to yield to vehicles on their right and encourages signaling when turning at the intersection. All scheduled work is subject to weather conditions.
